Dress Guidelines
The Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland is a place of spiritual practice, retreat and study. To support the sacred atmosphere of the Ashram please respect the following guidelines regarding proper attire when you are in the public areas of the Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland.
The public areas include the Lobby, Amrit, Bookstore, Meditation Halls, Courtyard and the Bhagawan Nityananda Temple.
- Clothing must be clean and in good repair.
- Clothing must be modest, i.e. not low cut, sleeveless, revealing or sheer.
- Clothing should fit properly, i.e. not be tight fitting and should not expose undergarments
- Tank tops, shorts, short tops that expose the midriff, spaghetti strap tops, and mini skirts are not permitted.
- Novelty buttons, jewelry and clothing (such as jackets, sweaters, T-shirts) that endorse political or other causes, and/or display slogans or pictures that are vulgar, depict violence or are offensive to others are not permitted.
- Sweat pants and shirts and other exercise clothing are suitable for Hatha Yoga classes but not for public areas of the ashram.
- Shoes must be worn in all public areas except the Meditation Halls and the Bhagawan Nityananda Temple.
